INDISCIPLINE BAR IN SCHOOLS

Spare the rod and spoil the child - is one of the oldest tenet of infallible parental wisdom, perhaps, the overall parenting nest of the ages. We might ignore it, but it still stands the test of time. No matter how rapidly and evolving the society is becoming, the old saying has the fount of wisdom grinning through the canon for centuries. Ignore it at your own peril. Following an incident of fire that occurred at Utumishi girls senior school, I've had time to think about this; the desperate level of discipline and the children of today. How the futility of friendship, peer groups and pressure among the children have handed down an ugly piece of manner and demeanour. It must have been the paranoia of living habitually that has led us here; letting children do things as they wish, snakly and secretively because they are our children.  Gone are the days when discipline was met by standards. No boundaries, no sparing, no shame or favour. It was a collective responsibility and any child, regardless of tribe, gender or any other affiliation became everyone's responsibility in the society.
