The subject of perspective immediately captures human attention because every individual on earth interprets life through a particular lens. No person approaches reality without influence. Our upbringing, experiences, victories, disappointments, wounds, traditions, fears, and expectations all contribute toward shaping the framework through which we perceive existence. In many ways, perspective becomes the invisible architecture of thought. It governs how we respond to adversity, how we judge people, how we interpret God’s dealings with us, and ultimately how we walk with the Lord. Within the Christian life, this matter carries tremendous spiritual significance because perspective determines the modus operandi of one’s daily fellowship with God. A man wearing tinted spectacles inevitably sees the world according to the color of the lens he has chosen. Red lenses stain everything crimson; green lenses cast an emerald hue over reality. Regardless of how sincerely that person argues for his perception, everything he sees is filtered through the condition of his sight. In the same manner, many believers interpret circumstances not through the mind of Christ, but through the coloring of fear, trauma, tradition, bitterness, pride, disappointment, or worldly reasoning.
